Dr. Vonzell Agosto is Professor and Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology. Her research focuses on curriculum leadership (preparation, practice, philosophy, theory, policy), mentoring in academia, anti-oppressive education, and culture (i.e., arts/aesthetics). Central questions include: How can curriculum and leadership be developed in the service of anti-oppressive education? How do ethics (i.e., grace, justice) manifest in struggles to be well-educated? How can curriculum and leadership perpetuate and/or intervene in dis/ableism, racism, and/or sexism affecting schools and communities? Dr. Agosto's research/scholarship is disseminated in journals such as Educational Researcher, Teachers College Record, Journal of School Leadership, Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy and Review of Research in Education.

As Principal or Co-Principal investigator, Dr. Agosto has been awarded grants focusing on Job-Embedded Leadership Preparation and has provided professional development in the United States and abroad (Trinidad, 2019; Spain, 2025), using experiential or art-based approaches. She has or continues to serve on Editorial Boards (e.g., Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy) and review for several journals.

Dr. Agosto likes to integrate culture (popular, material, heritage/ethnic) into her teaching and research and bring attention to ethics/ethical reasoning and current events affecting schooling, leadership, curricular/pedagogical practice, or policy in educational settings and communities. Dr. Agosto teaches and unteaches to promote understanding and intellectual processes that unveil what knowledge or truth stands upon. This curricular/ pedagogical approach to teaching is grounded in her philosophical stance that becoming educated is a process that involves unsettling, questioning, and un-resolving.

Dr. Agosto has studied to become more fluent in Spanish (Mexico, Colombia, United States) and aspires to increase her ability to speak and write academic language in Spanish. Dr. Agosto has enjoyed fishing from seashores and riverbanks (Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois), playing or dancing to music (house, salsa, bachata), and viewing shows/movies about the start of a zombie apocalypse.
